Airpolisher for sub-gingival treatment

Mectron has updated its line of table-top airpolishers, known for their supra-gingival cleaning using a very precise powder-water jet and a specific prophylaxis powder based on sodium bicarbonate. It has recently been shown that when a specific low-abrasive powder is used, airpolishing can also be used to remove subgingival plaque. Compared to traditional sub-gingival scaling, this new method is faster and removes more plaque in pockets from 3-5 mm depth. As pocket cleaning with airpolishing is also more comfortable for the patient, it is ideal for supportive periodontal therapy. The new combi and turbodent have been specially designed for use with a new low-abrasive powder, namely clinpro (3M Espe). A button allows the user to switch easily between the classical supra-gingival “prophy” mode and the new “perio” mode with specifically adapted working pressure. These settings allow the best possible cleaning efficiency in both modes, combined with a low powder consumption.
